Michael Creel Lots of different things in this album, some jazz fusion, some Zappa-esque stuff, a ballad or two, and some classical influences. A great listen. Favorite track: Oppressionville.

plaginess Loving this record. Can't say I saw a combination of King Crimson, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa, and Mr. Bungle coming, but here it is, and it's amazing. Favorite track: Jeffrey the Chainsaw Man.

johnferngrove Another meta-guitarist of the post-Holdsworth generation. Unbelievable skills - makes me feel like an absolute beginner. But also a phenomenal composer with an extraordinary Schoenberg meets Zappa musical vision. Advanced circus music is exactly what the album is.

Note that Mc Hacek should be written with a haček on the c, i.e. č. But let's not be picky here, because Mc Hacek actually is Alex Machacek, who's missing the haček, too. His 1999 debut album surely meets open ears among the Zappa and Holdsworth fans. In fact, there are several references to Zappa's "Black Page" super-hyper-masterpiece. Besides that, there's a lot of first-class fusion music on this album, composed either by Mc Hacek himself, or by his bass/keyboards bandmate Tibor Kövesdi. Sven B. Schreiber (sbs)
